FEEDING INSTRUCTIONS Using a standard 8 oz/250 ml measuring cup which contains approximately 117 g of NF Kidney Function Canine Formula.

The following feeding program is recommended as a guideline only, with discretionary clinical adjustments for proper weight maintenance. With your veterinarian's approval, offer increasing amounts of the new food with decreasing amounts of the old food.

Provide adequate fresh water in a clean container daily. For your pet's health, see your veterinarian regularly.

Your veterinarian has recommended this feeding schedule for your dog's special needs.

Transition Instructions

Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Our Dog LOVES this Food

We recently found out that our dog appears to have trouble with kidney function. He wasn't eating his favorite food or any other food we tried. He developed an abscess, which sent us to the veterinarian. She treated that with antibiotics. His weight loss alarmed her so she did a complete blood test and found indications of poor kidney function. We ordered Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diet - Kidney Function. Chewy made it so easy. We just submitted our vet's name and they contacted her to verify the prescription. Rocky loves this food, gobbles it right up. He even gives me the stare-down at 4pm because he is so ready for supper. He is Alive!

My 14 lb Pom mix came down with kidney disease. For months he was lethargic and very slow moving. After getting him on antibiotics and changing his diet, he is a new dog. He runs and plays and nips my heels like he hasn't in years. He is 14 years old and I just thought it was an age problem but that is not true. He doesn't love this food but will eat it with broth and some wet food on top. My only problem is that the kibble is rather large for a small dog with not that many teeth. Soaking it first helps but smaller kibble would be better. Yet, very glad to have food that allows him to enjoy life.

My 1.5 year old has been on this for 6 months and I have been able to improve her numbers and I use phosbind with this food as well. She has kidney dysplasia she was born with underdeveloped kidneys and we have put her on this food ever since we found out and she loves it! We put this in her bowl with wet food on top, then phosbind and then we fill the bowl up with water for extra hydration! Thank you purina for making this food for our baby!

My guy (stage 2) liked this at first, then started not liking it so I tried adding water, then adding no sodium chicken broth, then minced turkey breast. He'd eat around the chicken broth soaked kibble. From the research I've done it seems this is not abnormal for renal foods to start out as palatable and then shift to the dogs refusing to eat that brand.

My older girl was recently diagnosed with kidney failure. My other dogs are fed Purina Pro Plan Sport so I figured that she would like this. I was totally wrong. My dog absolutely refuses to eat this food. She will go days without eating instead. I'm happy I only got the small bag to try out. As much as I like Purina's other products, I DO NOT recommend this food.

Switching food with our finicky eater is a chore. She doesn't like anything with lamb. She can sniff out suspicious fillers as well. Purina Pro Plan Kidney Function Formula she will chow down. No stomach issues so all is good on that front. This change was necessitated by her age. Her annual blood work and urinalysis results showed increased protein being excreted. All seems better now plus she has lost weight!

Concerned, after reading some other reviews on here, that he might not eat the new prescription food. Well, it's too early to tell if it will improve his kidney function numbers, but our 10 year old Goldendoodle sure loves the taste! No soft stools or throwing up, either.

We were surprised to find out our young 6 yr lab has kidney issues. We started on another KD brand and she hated it, lost weight and only ate out of necessity or tried to steal our other dogs food. On our last visit the vet gave me Purina to try and she seems to really like it. We shall see if it lasts!

Our 10 almost 11 year old Golden was diagnosed with early stage kidney disease, it was recommended we change her diet to low protein and low phosphorus. We decided on Just Food For Dogs as we had been using that product for a couple of years mixed with a high end kibble. What we found with the JFFDogs was that she lacked energy and began to lose weight from what we can only assume was what was lacking in the fresh food. No carbs maybe? Anyhoo...3 weeks in with this new Purina (would have never chosen this brand) she is PERKY and gaining some weight back!!!! We are delighted with hopes our girl has many more years telling us what to do!!!

CON: I ordered this and the wet food and my dog hated them and has been on a hunger strike for 2 days and the cat tries to bury it. Not even my canine food disposal will eat this if it's left in the bowl and that's never a good sign. PRO: The food is about the size a of dime (in diameter) which is good and the wet food has a good consistency.
